Simone Stoll (Germany) – FAREWELL – ABSCHIED, 2016, 06:08

‘Abschied’ shows the view out of a train into a vast landscape paired with dream-like performance sequences of a woman. Several layers of time run parallel in the video; the journey and speed of the fast train, the traces of the rain drops on the window panes and the all different world of the woman in nature, melting into a time of natural cycles. Words appear like messages to the traveler, tender thoughts of a person left behind underlining the uncertainty of the journey, the pain of a farewell.

My research is based on the human existence interwoven with personal experiences. A former painter, I focus on video and drawing. My videos are intimate moments in solitude, poetic reflexions on life and the emotional world within.
I have been artist-in-residence with the Museum of Reykajvik, the Academy of the Arts Berlin and art centers in France. My work can be found in European collections and has been shown in Australia, Canada, Europe and the USA. In 2008, I took part in the Biennale of Québec; in 2007, I has received the Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant.
